Getting Fit at Swinson Park in Morehead City, NC

Getting Fit at Swinson Park in Morehead City, NC

Swinson Park in Morehead City, NC 28557

The New Year often brings New Goals.  One of my goals (and I understand that it is most common new year resolution), is to get in shape.  I quit smoking 6 months ago, and replaced tobacco & nicotine with food & candy. The good news is that I recognize the direction I am going and am doing something about it.... Move More, Eat Less!

If you live in Carteret County there are a couple of Gym & Fitness Centers you can join, but you certainly don't have to be a member of a gym to get in shape.  Other than the Treadmill in my bedroom that offers me early morning walks while the family is still sleeping, I try to get outside as often as possible.  Riding my bike isn't too productive as I am usually riding along side my 7 year old who pokes along doing stunts.  Walking around my neighborhood is wonderful, but I find myself stopping often to either talk with neighbors or take pictures.Swinson Park, Morehead City, NC 28557

This past weekend, when my family and I decided to get some excercise and fresh air, we headed to Swinson Park in Morehead City, located at 4319 Country Club Road.  Not only does Swinson Park have lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, Adult & Youth baseball fields, a playground and picnic shelters with restrooms, You can find access to the Bridges Street Walking/Biking Trail there.  The walking trail is several miles long and runs parallel with Bridges Street Extention. Swinson Park, Morehead City, NC 28557Along the trail, you'll find trash cans, water fountains (bubblers if you're from Wisconsin), benches for resting, and they even have a wonderful area for stretching.

Playing and seeing your community....What a wonderful way to spend the day and get some excercise & fresh air in the process!

Local parks are a must in any city. We are heading for a hike in the mountains this morning since school is out today.

Harry - Have fun with your Hike!  We love our parks around here.... So much to do!

John - Thanks.... The candy sure helped me quit smoking, but......  I am now afraid I'm going to turn into a carrot ;0)  Gotta stay focused!  Thanks again for all your support these past few months!  Have a wonderful day!

I love public parks, and with the economy being a bit tight, it seems more families are enjoying them.

Wish I was there Amy, your "Other Roger" would love to join you on your 2012 Fitness Program.  Imagine how much fun we'd have doing something that's not "all that enjoyable".

Amy,  As you know, I had to give up running and it is a struggle for me to find an alternative way to "move more."  We are truly blessed with lots of great parks.  I also joined a gym and I had my first swim lesson today.  I'm hoping that the exercise I'll get swimming will burn as many calories without tearing up my back.  I will still find time to enjoy the parks often with my three boys!

Good morning, Amy. Good that you have laid down the butts for good. Now to tackle the weight. One step at a time...

OK, I know where I'm taking you when you guys come to visit so that you don't lose your routine of getting in to shape. Should I also have rice cakes in the pantry for you Amy?

Amy, good for you, making choices to be heathy! I need that jolt to get me back on track, still stuck with holiday cookie tins and Italian Panetone. I exercise, but then spoil it with snacks.

Carol - You-re right, lots of folks around here are spending more time outdoors walking, biking, playing tennis, etc.  Saves my family A LOT of money!

Roger - I have a feeling we would have a blast getting in shape together (heck...we'd have a blast doing nothing together).  I so wish you were closer!

Mom - Heading to the park with Tan Man is a great way to get in shape... He wears me out!  Tennis this weekend?

Michael - Thank You!  Yep.... One step and one carrot at a time!

Craig - Should I be worried?  No rice cakes.... Fruit & Veggies!  Looking forward to our visit!

Ellen - I gave lots of cookies & breads & goodies away this holiday season!  I have gained almost 30 pounds, and knew that I had to do something... quick!  Already down 9.8 pounds!  WooHoo!  Get rid of those tins!!!!!

Frank & Karen - Next Meetup should be "Active"..... We will get in shape together!  Any ideas?
