Okay, what's with the text messaging? Everyday I receive text messages, so I finally decided to learn a little of the lingo. I found a list of common acronyms and tried for several days to respond to text messages with text messages. It took me twice as long, because I had to continuously refer to my list. I know that a lot of people use text messaging (Sorry...SMS) while in meetings or classes, and other times that a phone call would be out of the question. Please tell me that this is a FAD and that it isn't necessary for me to learn all of these acronyms! I also noticed that there is a lot of cursing going on in the whole text messaging world. Am I the only one that is irritated by text messaging?

Text messaging, or texting is the common term for the sending of "short" (160 characters or fewer, including spaces) text messages from mobile phones using the Short Message Service(SMS). It is available on most digital mobile phones and some persona digital assistants with on-board wireless telecommunications. The individual messages which are sent are called text messages or, more colloquially, texts or SMS.

Well Amy, Looks like you spent a lot of time researching the whole texting thing. I actually found it fun for a little while, but like lots of the new technology that comes along, I've rejected it. It's not for me and I'm quite offended when I'm spending time with my 13 year old granddaughter and she's busily texting the entire time. What happened to actual conversations? Parents, check out what the kids are doing!
Text messaging is the new chat. According to what I've read, Yahoo Messenger and AOL's chat rooms (the two most popular) have been overtaken by spammers. So, now texting is the new medium for kids to connect safely with each other.
